The adjustable seat post is undoubtedly one of the most brilliant inventions of recent years. For it to function optimally on the trail, the right measurement is crucial. To find the right measurement, you first need to determine your inseam / inner leg length. Please keep in mind that this is merely a recommendation, as the individual seating position greatly depends on personal habits and preferences.
Instructions
You will need for measuring:
- Level or book
- Measuring tape / ruler
- Your bike shoes
The appropriate seat post length can primarily be determined based on your height or inner leg length, or also inseam height. We will explain how to measure this correctly in the following steps.
To measure your inseam length, you only need a suitable measuring tool like a ruler and a level. If a level is not available, a book can also serve as a substitute.
Take off your house/street shoes and put on your current bike shoes. If you are wearing thick pants, it's best to take them off, as they can affect the result.
If you are using a level, hold it horizontally between your legs pointing upwards. Alternatively, you can also use a book or a catalog. Stand in front of a wall or door so that the measuring tool is aligned parallel to the floor.
Important: Do not just hold the level loosely, but actively press it into your crotch. This will account for the pressure that will later be applied to the seat.
4. Measure the length from the floor to the top edge of the level or the book. If possible, ask someone for help with reading the measurement.
5. Note the value - done! The measured value is your inseam length or inseam height.
Now, to choose your correct seat post length for your respective inner leg length, we have created a table for each frame size, which you can find at the bottom of the product pages under "Seat Posts":
By the way: With the inner leg length, you can also easily find the optimal saddle setting: Multiply your determined value in cm (see above) by the factor 0.88.
Example: Inner leg length = 81cm
Ideal saddle height: 81cm x 0.88 = 71.28cm
The distance from the center of the crank to the top edge of the saddle should ideally be 71.28cm. This way, you have the perfect fit on your Propain bike!
