What do I need to consider when placing an order?
Bike leasing is only available for customers residing in Germany or Austria. Check whether the accessories you want are eligible for leasing. You can find an overview of leaseable accessories here. Please provide your user ID and company code in the order form – we need these to create the offer.
How does the ordering process work?
Configure your dream bike in our webshop and select bike leasing as your payment method. After your order is received, our staff will review it, and then we will create an offer for you in the bike leasing portal.
My employer has set a specific budget, but the configuration of my bike exceeds this. Is it possible to pay part separately or to purchase a voucher?
No, unfortunately that is not possible.
How long does it take to receive my offer?
Typically, within 1-2 business days.
What happens after my offer has been created in the bike leasing portal?
Once your offer has been confirmed by your employer and bike leasing, we will receive the leasing approval from bike leasing. We will then send you an email confirmation of the leasing approval and inform you of the expected shipping date.
Can I make changes after placing the order?
Changes are only possible if they are value-neutral. For changes that would result in a change in the purchase price, you must cancel your current order and place a new one, as we would then need to start a new process with bike leasing.
What are the benefits of bike leasing for employees?
A key reason is that company bikes can be financed through salary conversion. Since the leasing rates are covered from the gross salary under salary conversion, the tax burden and social contributions decrease, resulting in a significantly lower actual net burden when leasing a company bike compared to the leasing rate. Additionally, the favorable 0.25% rule applies to the flat-rate taxation of the monetary benefit from the company bike. Due to these tax incentives, employees can save up to 40% when acquiring a bicycle or e-bike compared to direct purchase.
Is bike leasing worth it? How much will I save?
How much you can save with company bike leasing depends on various factors: gross salary, tax class, and the price of the bicycle or e-bike are three key factors that influence savings when leasing a company bike. You can calculate your individual cost advantage with our leasing calculator for employees to see directly if bike leasing is worth it for you.
Do I have to pay taxes on bike leasing?
It depends: With company bike leasing through salary conversion, the taxable gross salary of the employee decreases, reducing tax burden and social contributions. The private use of the company bike must be taxed as a monetary benefit, but only at a flat rate of 0.25% of the gross list price. This is different for company bikes that are fully financed by the employer and not through salary conversion: these have been completely tax-free for the employee since 2019.
What is the 0.25% rule for bike leasing and what does the company car regulation mean?
The private use of a company car must be taxed as a monetary benefit. Under the company car regulation (also known as the company car privilege), this monetary benefit is assessed at a flat rate as a certain percentage of the gross purchase price. Since 2012, this regulation has also applied to company bikes, and the amount of the monetary benefit was initially set at 1% like for company cars. Since 2020, the flat rate has been reduced to only 0.25% of the gross list price (0.25% rule), allowing company bike users to benefit even more.
What does monetary benefit mean in bike leasing?
In bike leasing, the monetary benefit refers to the fact that you can use your company bike also – or even exclusively – for private purposes. This monetary benefit is assessed at a flat rate of 0.25% of the gross list price and added to the taxable salary of the employee.
Is company bike leasing tax-free?
A company bike is completely tax-free only if it is not financed through salary conversion, but rather the employer covers all leasing costs and provides the bicycle or e-bike to the employee free of charge as a salary extra.
Why must bike leasing go through my employer?
At least for bike leasing through salary conversion, an employer is required. The employer leases the company bike and provides it to the employee as a non-cash benefit for use. Under this model, employees benefit from tax incentives and save up to 40% compared to direct purchase. Are you your own boss? Company bike leasing is also available for self-employed individuals without salary conversion.
Is bike leasing also available for employees in the public sector?
Yes, in some areas of the public sector, employees can already benefit from the advantages of company bike leasing through salary conversion. For employers in the public sector to be able to offer their employees bike leasing through salary conversion, corresponding collective agreements must be made. These are already in place for employees of municipal employers, among others.
What is the bike leasing user ID?
The bike leasing user ID is an eight-digit code that you receive as an employee when you register in the bike leasing portal with your employer's company code. You must provide this code when placing your order so that we can submit the leasing application for your company bike.
Can I choose a discounted bicycle as my company bike?
Yes, that is possible. The reduced price also lowers the leasing and insurance rates. However, the monetary benefit – that is, the tax burden for the company bike – is not based on the actual purchase price, but rather on the non-binding price recommendation (RRP). This can affect the overall savings from the leasing model for heavily discounted bicycles.
Can I also lease accessories for my company bike?
Yes, all accessories that are permanently attached to the company bike can be included in the lease. Leaseable accessories include, for example, mudguards, racks, and bike stands, but trailers and child seats can also be leased as accessories. However, items such as bike helmets, clothing, etc., cannot be included in the lease. If you are unsure whether an accessory can be included in the lease, please feel free to inquire with our internal service team. By the way: A bike lock with a minimum purchase price of €48 gross must always be leased with bike leasing.
Can family members also ride my company bike?
Yes, in principle, it is possible for spouses and children to use an employee's company bike. Typically, the use agreement between the employee and employer stipulates whether family members (who live in the same household) are allowed to ride the leased bicycle. Our insurance packages also cover agreed family use.
Can I also use my company bike for private purposes, such as on vacation?
A clear yes! The private use of company bikes is considered a monetary benefit that must be taxed. Due to the flat-rate taxation under the 0.25% rule, private use is explicitly allowed.
How long does a bike leasing contract run?
A bike leasing individual contract can run for 36 or 48 months. The duration applicable in a company is agreed upon in the framework leasing contract that your employer concludes. After the leasing period, employees are typically given the opportunity to purchase their company bike at a favorable price.
