How often do I need to change the chain and cassette on the Ekano 3 AL?

The DJI Avinox M2/M2S motor delivers an exceptionally high torque that elevates your riding experience to a new level while requiring more attention to the drive than you might be used to from other e-bikes.

    Regular checks pay off

As a rule of thumb, check your chain for wear every 20 operating hours. This can be done quickly with a simple chain measuring tool and protects you from a stretched chain unnoticed ruining the cassette. Those using the bike commercially – such as guides or in rentals – should plan the check after 15 operating hours, as the load cycles are significantly higher here.

You can easily read how long you've been riding via the display or the DJI app.

    Reference values for inspection:

    Usage Type Chain Cassette
Private every 20 hrs. every 40 hrs.
Commercial every 15 hrs. every 30 hrs.

At the latest, when the chain is measurably stretched or the corresponding hours are reached, a replacement is due.

Tip: At the latest during the second chain replacement, you should also have the cassette checked. It is often due for replacement as well.

Chain Protection – your silent helper

The system features an integrated Chain Protection function. It temporarily reduces motor power when shifting gears, preserving the chain and cassette during each gear change – especially relevant in combination with electronic derailleurs like SRAM Transmission. The brief power interruption is therefore not a fault, but a desired protection.

You can deactivate the function; that’s up to you. Our advice: Keep it active. Without it, wear increases significantly.
